Fuhlinge

The Fuhlinge day-care centre is located in the historic water tower palace in Barmbek and forms part of “Quarter 21”. The total area of 1,200 square metres extends across two floors and offers space for nursery and kindergarten children. We also provide places for children with early intervention needs. With our focus on natural – social – cultural environment, we create space to experience and explore our city. Regular excursions, walks and explorations of the district are part of our daily routine.

Childcare provision

The Fuhlinge day-care centre has two nursery groups for children aged 12 months to 3 years and four kindergarten groups for children aged 3 to 6 years with and without special needs.

All children who are new to the facility are helped in the process of settling in following evaluated acclimatisation models for day-care centres.

Educational offer

With our partially open concept, the children develop various skills and strengths. We support the children in becoming independent and self-confident personalities. With the open breakfast and the selection of activities using symbol cards in the kindergarten section, the children experience co-determination and inclusion.
The children’s creativity is sought to be strengthened and promoted with various play materials and everyday objects that the children can use by dint of their own ideas and imagination.

Our focus is nature – social – cultural environment. The children walk a lot in the district or explore other places in Hamburg. The Hamburg educational recommendations are an integral part of our daily work, too. We also offer:

  • Research and experiments
  • Regular excursions: library, airport, getting to know the city
  • Kindergarten Bridge Year
  • Yoga
  • Project work, seasonal projects and activities
  • Creative design of the premises with the children’s input
  • Wholesome nutrition from predominantly controlled organic cultivation
  • Fresh fruit and drinks all day

Documentation and observation are an essential part of our educational work. The development of all children is accompanied and documented by using educational and learning stories.

Cooperation with parents

  • Annual development meetings
  • Conversations at drop-off and pick-up time
  • Parents’ evenings
  • Regular exchange with the parents’ council
  • Complaint management
  • Joint celebrations and events
  • Taking part in planning and implementation
  • Support offered by internal advisory team

History

The Fuhlinge day-care centre opened in October 2014 as the 29th establishment of Stiftung Kindergärten Finkenau and is located in the historic water tower palace on Fuhlsbüttler Straße at the heart of the park-like residential estate “Quarter 21” in Barmbek-Nord.

Day-care centre team

Qualified educators from a range of professions work at Finkenau’s facilities. Housekeeping and cleaning staff are also an integral part of the team. We are particularly committed to providing interns with qualified training.

Some teams receive additional support from volunteers or federal volunteers (“Bundesfreiwillige”).

Case discussions are held and pedagogical topics as well as conceptual and organisational matters discussed at the staff meetings that take place regularly. Our employees’ documentation and observation of the children’s development is an essential part of the work. All employees attend training courses on a regular basis.
