The Hölderlinsallee kindergarten is located on the Kampnagel site in the beautiful Winterhude district. Numerous playgrounds are in the vicinity and we also use the Kampnagel site for our excursions – we’re even involved with individual theatre projects. For us, the focus is on the children’s development of autonomy. We want to offer children the opportunity to discover the world and the district through a variety of activities (swimming, forest week, children’s trip, play, research, exercise, art). We are guided by the children’s questions in the process.

Offer

Childcare provision

We look after children from 2.5 years until they start school. We also have places for children with early intervention needs. The children start the day in their groups and can then choose the activities in the various learning rooms. We regularly visit the playgrounds close by so that the children get used to the traffic and are given the opportunity to enjoy varied activities outdoors.

All children who are new to the facility are helped in the process of settling in following evaluated acclimatisation models for day-care centres.

We enjoy a close cooperation with the Pfützenracker nursery facility.

Educational offer

The children’s interests and needs are our top priority. We place great emphasis on the active participation of the children in everyday life and in individual activities. Every day in our learning rooms, the children find the opportunity for artistic, building and physical activities. In addition, we regularly offer the following activities:

  • Doing research
  • Swimming
  • Reading aloud
  • Annual forest week and children’s trip
  • Bridge Year
  • Theatre project
  • Excursions within Hamburg
  • Music (we are an official day-care centre for the Canto elementar singing programme) with volunteers supporting us in the process

We enable the children to independently implement their ideas for playing and accompany them in their learning of social interaction. In our large activity room, we encourage exercise as the basis of holistic development. We accompany and document the development of the children through the educational and learning stories in order to make the learning experiences visible and relatable to the children and their parents.

Cooperation with parents

  • Parent survey (every two years)
  • Parents’ council
  • Parents’ evenings
  • Conversations at drop-off and pick-up time
  • Complaint management
  • Annual development meetings
  • Support offered by internal advisory team
  • Integration of voluntary activities on part of the parents, for making juice, tailoring, playing football
  • Sitting in on groups is always welcome

History

The Hölderlinsallee kindergarten has existed at its current location since summer 2009. It is located on the Kampnagel site, where interesting experiences on walks are almost expected. The facility was previously located on Hölderlinsallee and, founded in 1975, was the first establishment that Stiftung Kindergärten Finkenau set up. Based on this tradition, we decided to keep the name, especially as educators from the early days still work here.

The basic principles of Stiftung Kindergärten Finkenau held true then as they do now: lots of exercise for city children as the foundation of development and the inclusion of children with disabilities.

These principles are still being followed in the new Hölderlinsallee and fresh ones are being added. In recent years we have enhanced our music section and also placed more focus on language development. We are committed to consistently developing our concept.

Every year new children join us for whom we can revise our concept and discover new things.

Kindergarten team

Qualified educators from a range of professions work at Finkenau’s facilities. Housekeeping and cleaning staff are also an integral part of the team. We are particularly committed to providing interns with qualified training.

Some teams receive additional support from volunteers or federal volunteers (“Bundesfreiwillige”).

Case discussions are held and pedagogical topics as well as conceptual and organisational matters discussed at the staff meetings that take place regularly. Our employees’ documentation and observation of the children’s development is an essential part of the work. All employees attend training courses on a regular basis.
